So you wanna hunt turkeys?

Turkey hunting has rapidly become one of my favorite activities to pursue in the outdoors. It certainly hasn’t always been that way. For years I struggled to understand the recipe of how to get birds in range or even find them for that matter. When I began hunting turkeys, we didn’t have the surplus of information readily available like we do nowadays. Back then you had to know someone who knew how to hunt turkeys who could show you the ropes. Otherwise, it meant long days in the field that resulted in bringing home ticks instead of turkeys. Maximizing your time in the Field

I spend a lot of time outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, foraging, or hiking. A few years ago, I realized many of these excursions into the wild were not properly being utilized. The activity I was engaged in was the sole focus. Eventually the realization set in that I was wasting valuable time in the field. How could it be considered time wasted when you’re hyper focused on the task at hand? For instance, if I was looking for Morel Mushrooms there was no time spent searching for deer bedding areas, overlooked food sources, a convergence of trials that led to community scrape tree, travel corridors, pinch points, etc. While deer hunting, I would find a random turkey feather and not ask myself why it was there.
